MEDIA RELEASE

PERTH MINT MARKS 150 YEARS OF ALICE IN WONDERLAND

The Perth Mint is celebrating the first publication of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with the release of two limited edition silver collectable coins.

Famous across the world, this Lewis Carroll classic follows the adventures of Alice, a young girl whose curiosity is sparked when she follows a talking White Rabbit down a rabbit hole, into the imaginative world of Wonderland, which is populated by anthropomorphic animals and creatures.
Struck from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver, the first release is an innovative clock coin complete with an antiqued finish. The design showcases Alice, the Cheshire cat, and several playing cards around the edge, with the White Rabbit featured on the face of a clock in the middle of the coin, with the iconic inscription ‘Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

A delightful rose design, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2015 year-date are shown on the coin’s obverse. A quote from the book, “Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting!” is also included on the back of the clock in a spiral form.

“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is an enduring classic that has stood the test of time. For 150 years, generations all over the world have been captivated with the fantasy world of Wonderland, and here at the Mint we are thrilled to release these silver proof coins honouring Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece,” said Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie.

The second coin released by The Perth Mint features a portrait of Alice holding a bottle labelled ‘DRINK ME’ with the Cheshire cat and the White Rabbit. The inscription ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, ‘150 Years’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also appear in the design.
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, no more than 2,500 of the 150th Anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland 2015 2oz silver antiqued clock coin and 5,000 of the 150th Anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland 2015 1oz silver proof coin will be released by The Perth Mint.
