Opened amid much fanfare in 1899, The Perth Mint struck it's first gold half sovereign in 1900. As the only Perth Mint half sovereign issued for circulation during the reign of Queen Victoria, this historic collectors item is of a rare and sought after grade.
Rare, Iconic Sovereign
The rarity of the 1900 Half Sovereign is simply due to the tiny number struck, with the mintage closed at a mere 119,376. With so many coins either lost, melted for the gold or heavily circulated, this key half sovereign date is certainly a unique find.
The coin's reverse portrays Benedetto Pistrucci's classic St George and the Dragon design, and includes The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark. The obverse bears Sir Thomas Brock's Queen Victoria Veil Head effigy.
Assessed by leading third-party coin verifiers Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), the coin is displayed in certified security packaging.
