To celebrate Diwali, the annual ‘festival of lights’, The Perth Mint has released this vibrantly coloured coin featuring a representation of a dancing Ganesha. Diwali is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists around the world. At the heart of the jubilant five-day festivities is the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
99.99% Pure Silver
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver.
Vivid Colour Design
As the Hindu deity of intellect, patron of arts and sciences, and remover of obstacles, the elephant-like Ganesha is worshipped with the goddess Lakshmi to welcome wisdom along with wealth. The reverse of the coin features a coloured representation of Ganesha as he is traditionally portrayed. He holds a lotus flower, a symbol of enlightenment, an axe to cut down ignorance and has a mouse at his feet.
As an animal that can find its way into a small spaces, the mouse complements the strong elephantine god’s abilities to overcome obstacles. Meanwhile, as an animal that is constantly nibbling away at anything it can, the rodent serving Ganesha is a metaphor for how a wise person remains in control of their desires. The design includes the inscription ‘happy diwali’, the 2018 year-date and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
Tuvalu Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2018 year-date on its obverse.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 Diwali Festival 2018 1oz Silver Coins.
Presentation Packaging with Numbered Certificate
The coin is housed in a contemporary latex case which displays both sides of the coin. The case is packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
