The Southern Cassowary is a large flightless black bird found in far north-east Queensland, New Guinea and surrounding islands. This is the sixth coin in the Endangered and Extinct Series.

The coin’s reverse features a coloured Southern Cassowary with a chick in the rainforest. The design includes the inscription SOUTHERN CASSOWARY.

The coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, the 2016 year-date and the coin’s weight and fineness appear on its obverse.
