About the Series
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a classic science fiction novel written by French author Jules Verne and published in 1870.
The book tells the tale of Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus. The year is 1866, and there is much discussion about a mysterious sea creature that has been sinking ships all over the world. The United States government steps in to investigate, and sends a crew out on-board the Abraham Lincoln to identify the creature.
Pierre Aronnax, a French scientist and his manservant, Consell, are joined on-board by a harpooner named Ned Land. The trio sets sail and is subsequently attacked by the deadly creature which is shaped like a fish, complete with a large fin on top. When they are thrown overboard they realise their attacker is actually a submarine called the Nautilus.
The story tells of the trio’s exciting, and sometimes terrifying, adventures on the Nautilus which roams the seas sinking warships.
