HOPMAN CUP TROPHY AND DIAMOND TENNIS BALLS ON DISPLAY AT THE PERTH MINT
Tuesday 4 January 2011
As the official commemorative coin supplier of the Hyundai Hopman Cup, The Perth Mint is delighted to display the prestigious trophy and diamond encrusted winners’ tennis balls in the lead up to the 2011 tournament.
The perpetual trophy is presented to the winners of the mixed team event each year, and has been held aloft by distinguished players including Steffi Graf, Boris Becker, Roger Federer, Martina Hingis and Serena Williams.
In addition, the tournament winners also receive a stunning Argyle Diamond encrusted pure silver tennis ball. Each Diamond Ball is hand crafted by Brinkhaus Jewellers and showcases some 200 high quality pink and white Argyle diamonds.
The Hyundai Hopman Cup is regarded as the most prestigious invitational tennis tournament in the world and is an important lead-in event to the Australian Open, also in January each year.
One male and one female representative from each of eight chosen countries are invited to play the round robin of two groups of four, with the winning team in each group playing in the Final.
Hyundai Hopman Cup XXIII will be held at Burswood Dome from 1 to 8 January 2011, with some of the world’s greatest players competing, including the current World No. 3 Novak Djokovic (Serbia), World No. 4 Andy Murray (Great Britain) and former World No. 1 players Justine Henin (Belgium), Ana Ivanovic (Serbia) and Lleyton Hewitt (Australia).
