PERTH MINT HONOURS THE AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO
The Perth Mint has released a limited edition tribute to mark 25 years since the iconic kangaroo was first featured on Australia’s inaugural gold coin program, aptly named the Australian Kangaroo.
Introduced in 1989, under the authority of the Commonwealth Government, the classic Stuart Devlin design has established the Australian Kangaroo as one of the world’s most sought after gold coin programs.
The 2014 tribute coin is crafted from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold and struck in bullion quality.
Replicating the original artistry by Dr Devlin AO CMG, goldsmith and jewellery to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the special issue features a bounding red kangaroo surrounded by stylised rays of sunlight, bordered by the inscription AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO 1oz 999 GOLD and the year-dates 1989 – 2014. To signify the milestone anniversary, a special ‘P25’ mintmark is also incorporated in the design.
“The red kangaroo is instantly recognised as an icon of Australia, so to achieve such longevity is testimony to the popularity of our nation’s gold investment coins across the globe," said Ron Currie, Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the obverse of the tribute coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and 2014 year-date.
Maintaining its appeal, the same design has also appeared on the 1 kilo release in the Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin Series for the past 25 years.
Additionally, this unique creation is showcased on the famed Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin cast by The Perth Mint, and recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest coin in the world.
As part of a promotion to mark the 25th anniversary of the Australian Kangaroo, the One Tonne Coin will embark on a roadshow across Europe later this month.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 65,000 Australian Kangaroo 2014 1oz Gold Bullion Tribute Coins. Investors and collectors in Australia and Asia can purchase this historic piece from www.perthmintbullion.com, while purchasers in Europe and American can secure the coin from selected coin dealers.
