PERTH MINT RELEASES DISNEY- INSPIRED COMMEMORATIVES IN AUSTRALIA
New Zealand Mint celebrates some of Disney’s most cherished characters on a series of gold and silver commemoratives, with The Perth Mint appointed the sole distributor in Australia.
To launch the collector series, the inaugural 1oz 99.9% pure silver and 1/4oz 99.99% pure gold coin will depict a scene from Disney’s iconic Steamboat Willie – the first film to feature Mickey Mouse and a triumph in the history of animation.
The reverse of both coins features a meticulously sculptured representation of Mickey Mouse at the wheel of his handcrafted ship. The inscription “Steamboat Willie 1928” completes the design.
“The Wonderful World of Disney has been watched in Australia since the 1950s, and we’re delighted to bring these beloved characters to their many fans across the nation,” said Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie.
Scheduled to be unveiled throughout the next two years, the future releases will showcase Disney classic characters such as Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas.
“To get the opportunity to work with the designs from what is undoubtedly the most well-known and well-loved cartoon character franchise in history is something all Mints would dream of,” said New Zealand Mint Chief Executive, Simon Harding.
Issued as legal tender of the South Pacific island nation of Niue, all coins feature the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination on the obverse.
Only 10,000 1oz silver and 1,000 1/4oz gold Steamboat Willie coins will be available. Priced at $112.50 and $775.00 respectively, both coins can be purchased from The Perth Mint at 310 Hay Street in East Perth, by telephoning toll free 1800 098 817 or by visiting perthmint.com.au
