TRUE LOVE RUNS HOT AT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint is inviting hopeless romantics to visit its Gold Exhibition this Valentine’s Day to watch molten gold transform into a solid gold heart!

Starry-eyed lovers can witness this amazing spectacle in the Mint’s original 1899 Melting House, where two hundred ounces of pure gold will be heated to the searing temperature of 1,200 degrees Celsius, before being hand-poured into a graphite mould in which the molten metal will cool to form a gleaming heart of gold.

This special love-themed gold pour will be performed at The Perth Mint on Sunday 14 February only, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Cathy Anza, Manager, The Perth Mint Shop and Exhibition, said, “The Perth Mint is well known as WA’s ‘Heart of Gold’, with many couples purchasing their wedding jewellery here and choosing our historic site as the location to have photographs taken on their big day.”

“In the spirit of the romance on Valentine’s Day, we are delighted to be able to offer this unique, cupid-inspired gold pour to visitors,” she continued.

To further express your devotion on this popular day, visitors to the Mint can also engrave their message of love for their Valentine on a Perth Mint medallion, which are available in gold-plated aluminium bronze, 99.9% pure silver or 99.99% pure gold.

For lovers looking for a precious gift to give, The Perth Mint offers an extensive range of exquisite jewellery featuring natural gold nuggets, opals, Argyle pink diamonds, and Kailis Australian Pearls, and stocks other leading brands.

For anyone wishing to pop that special question this Valentine’s Day, the Mint also carries a variety of diamond engagement rings, as well as eternity and anniversary rings in its elegantly appointed retail shop.

If you are simply looking for a romantic setting where you can enjoy the day with your Valentine, the Mint welcomes visitors to have a picnic on its front lawn and appreciate the uninterrupted view of its beautifully maintained colonial building. Valentine visitors can also book a Devonshire Tea to enjoy in the Mint’s inner courtyard café which is surrounded by turn of the century buildings.

As one of Western Australia's premier tourist attractions, The Perth Mint Gold Exhibition offers a unique combination of visual displays and interactive activities, giving visitors the opportunity to experience all the magic, allure and wonder of gold. Admissions are priced at $19 per adult, $8 per child (aged 4 to 15 years), with concessions also available.

The Perth Mint is located at 310 Hay Street (cnr Hill Street), within walking distance of the CBD, and is accessible via the free Red CAT bus route (Stop No. R06).
