First released 40 years ago, Alien is a true science fiction classic. Remembered for its unforgettable horror, gripping plot and ground-breaking special effects, it is also championed as a film with compelling characters, notably Ellen Ripley played by Sigourney Weaver. The chillingly violent scene of an alien larva exploding from the chest of one of the crew members remains one of the most memorable moments in cinema. The titular alien was such a vile creature it inspired sequel and prequel movies in a franchise with enduring appeal.
40th Anniversary Design
The coin’s reverse portrays imagery from the movie’s 1979 poster, credited to graphic designers Philip Gips and Steve Frankfurt. The poster’s focal point is an egg, which references the oval pods from which alien life first emerged in the presence of the crew’s landing party. Suspended over a shadowy lattice of calcified strands, the egg seeps sinister green-yellow light from a jagged crack in its side. The artwork includes the unforgettably ominous line: In space no one can hear you scream.
Also featured on the reverse design are the words ‘40th ANNIVERSARY’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the coin’s weight and fineness.
The perfect collector’s item, the coin is housed in a classic black display case within a themed shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
