The coin’s reverse depicts an Australian Diamantinasaurus dinosaur set against a colourful, prehistoric forest scene. The inscription DIAMANTINASAURUS, the coin’s weight and purity, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also incorporated into the design.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2015 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs – Diamantinasaurus 2015 1oz Silver Proof Coloured Coin.

Fossil discoveries of the creature have been found at an ancient billabong near Winton in Queensland. Scientists monikered the dinosaur “Matilda”, after ‘Waltzing Matilda’ the poem by famous Australian poet, Andrew Barton “Banjo” Paterson – with the scientific name Diamantiansaurus meaning Diamantina River lizard.
