Symbolising the victory of light over darkness, Diwali is one of the world’s great festive occasions. Observed by millions of people around the globe, it is celebrated during October or November with lights in the form of candles and lamps, fireworks, family feasts and the exchange of many gifts.
Lakshmi and Ganesh design
Portraying Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Ganesh, the elephant headed god of good fortune, the medallion’s reverse artistry includes 24-carat gold gilding on selected elements, including the deities’ ornate headdresses and neckpieces. Also symbolic of Diwali, the obverse features a ‘rangoli’ inspired pattern comprising diya (lamps) and lotus flower motifs.
