FRIDAY 13 DECEMBER 2019 Due to a private event The Perth Mint will be closing at 4:00pm on Friday 13 December. The last tour of the day will commence at 2:30pm which will conclude with the live gold pouring presentation at 3:00pm.

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. It was Australia's third branch of Britain's Royal Mint - the others being the Sydney Mint and the Melbourne Mint (both closed). Diggers, who flocked to the then colony of Western Australia in huge numbers from other parts of Australia and from around the world, deposited their raw gold with us where it was refined and minted into gold coins.  Gold refining continually took place at our original Hay Street premises until April 1990, when the operation was moved to a modern facility in Perth’s eastern suburbs.

The Perth Mint is Australia’s largest fully integrated, innovative precious metals enterprise, providing premium gold, silver and platinum products and services to markets throughout the world. We have invested over one hundred years in servicing and promoting the gold industry by developing and nurturing the markets for refined precious metal products across the globe: specifically, gold and silver bullion and highly-sought-after collectable coins. As one of Western Australia’s largest exporters, we distribute some $18 billion worth of pure gold, silver and platinum bullion bars and coins to investors in more than 100 countries annually.  Globally, we belong to a select group of gold refiners who have accreditation from five of the major gold exchanges.
