Dreaming down under
Like all young marsupials, a baby wombat is known as a joey – a shy and defenceless version of its adult protectors. Beautifully realised, the artistry on this postal numismatic cover captures the creature’s vulnerability to perfection.
Struck by The Perth Mint from aluminium bronze, the coin pictures a cute wombat asleep in a fleece-lined twig basket – a prop that has created a popular trend in newborn photography among parents all around the world. Included on the coin’s reverse is the Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
As well as featuring a coloured representation of the young animal, the beautifully illustrated postage paid envelope also features a Greenbushes WA post mark dated 13 July 2021.
