Five decades of AC/DC

AC/DC was formed in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, with Angus Young the only remaining original member. Founded in Sydney, the group takes their name from the abbreviation of ‘alternating current/direct current’ electricity – aptly representative of their high-energy and powerful musical style. The group has toured the world, played to sold-out arenas, and has sold more than 200 million albums over the past five decades. AC/DC’s popularity solidified the band as an Australian cultural icon with music transcending decades, trends and tragedy.

The coin’s reverse depicts the iconic AC/DC logo in colour with the dates ‘1973-2023’ and ‘50’ to mark the significant anniversary.
