This coin has been released to coincide with the ICOMOS 21st General Assembly and Scientific Symposium, being hosted in Sydney in 2023. The World Heritage Convention 1972 underpins the protection and preservation of sites inscribed on the World Heritage List through UNESCO. These sites are outstanding and highly significant examples of national and cultural heritage.
Stunning design
The 20 such Australian sites on the World Heritage List, which are of extraordinary value, beauty and significance, are featured in an artistic montage on this beautiful base metal coin. This coin is finished with colour and also depicts the 11 penal sites which make up the Australian Convict Site, all surrounding a coloured central image of a shell fossil and palm frond with a handprint silhouetted over the design.
