Fountain of honour
As 'fountain of honour', The Queen has the sole right of conferring titles of honour on deserving people from all walks of life, in public recognition of their merit, service or bravery. Honourees are announced twice a year, once in the New Year's Honours List, and once on The Queen's official birthday. Recipients collect their awards from Her Majesty (or a deputizing member of the Royal Family) at an Investiture ceremony.
Medals and signature design
Designed by Irish artist and illustrator P. J. Lynch, the coin portrays medals including the George Cross, Victoria Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross. The reverse also features a representation of The Queen’s signature and the inscription ‘DEVOTED TO YOUR SERVICE’, taken from a speech Her Majesty made on her 21st birthday.
Presentation packaging
The coin is housed on an illustrated presentation card featuring a photograph of The Queen presenting an award at an Investiture ceremony.
