Southern ocean swimmer
This wonderfully coloured coin depicts a swimming crabeater seal, a species which lives in the ice-pack zone surrounding Antarctica.
The seals, which grow to about 2.5m in length, can plunge 250m into the near freezing waters. Despite their name, the light coloured seals eat krill, not crabs, filtering out the tiny crustaceans through specially adapted teeth.
Coin design highlights seal with colour
The coin's reverse features a Crabeater Seal delving into the waves. The inscription CRABEATER SEAL and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark also appear in the design.

Official Australia Post stamp
The uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window to showcase its reverse and obverse designs.
Affixed to the envelope is an official Australia Post $1 stamp postmarked with the first day of issue, 27 March 2018.
