Honoured and sacred institution
Anzac Day falls on 25 April each year, the day Australian and New Zealand troops landed on the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915. Since 1916, it has been dedicated to commemorative activities honouring the courage and sacrifice of the first ANZACs during World War I and all succeeding Defence Force personnel who have served in times of war and other operations.
2024 tribute
The coin features a representation of a war memorial, a place for people to gather and remember those who have served in and died as a result of war. Set against a waterway among hills, the obelisk is surrounded by two flags, both at half-mast. Included in the design is a motif representing a torch and an eternal flame, the inscriptions ’25 April’ and ‘LEST WE FORGET’, the 2024 year-date a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
H.M. King Charles III effigy
The coin’s obverse portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.
Presentation card
This cover features portraits of three official war photographers of World War I and II within official $1.50 Australia Post stamps; Herbert Baldwin, Damien Parer, and George Silk. Briton Herbert Baldwin (1880-1920) was Australia’s first commissioned war photographer, engaged to record Australian troops on the Western Front in late 1916 and early 1917. Also included are the headings 'PICTURING WAR' and 'LEST WE FORGET'.
