First definitive coinage

The first definitive coins of His Majesty King Charles III’s reign are inspired by his passion for environmental issues and conservation. Personally approved by the King, the designs portray flora and fauna from all four nations of the United Kingdom, including a number of animals classed as endangered.

Wildlife designs

1p - hazel dormouse; 2p - red squirrel; 5p - oak tree leaf; 10p – capercaillie; 20p – puffin; 50p – salmon; £1 – bees; £2 - rose for England, daffodil for Wales, thistle for Scotland, shamrock for Northern Ireland. In addition, the reverse of each coin incorporates a pattern of three interlocking Cs, providing a link back to the coins of Charles II which also featured a C-based motif.
