In 2026, people across the world pause to reflect on what would have been the 100th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II — a monarch whose presence shaped an era.

Born on 21 April 1926, she ascended the throne in 1952 at just 25 years old, following the passing of her father, King George VI. Her marriage to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947 marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership, and together they raised four children while navigating the responsibilities of public life.

For 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II served as a constant in a rapidly changing world. Her reign— the longest in British history — was defined by resilience, duty, and an unwavering commitment to her people. She guided the monarchy through decades of social transformation, political shifts, and global challenges, all while remaining a symbol of stability and grace. As Head of the Commonwealth, she helped foster unity among diverse nations, strengthening bonds that continue today.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away on 8 September 2022, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate deeply. She was succeeded by her eldest son, King Charles III. Now, as we mark the centenary of her birth, we celebrate not only a remarkable life but also the values she embodied — service, dignity, and devotion.

To honour this historic milestone, The Perth Mint is releasing a special collection of commemorative coins that reflect some of the most meaningful moments and symbols of her extraordinary reign.

H.M. Queen Elizabeth II 100TH Anniversary 2026 Gold and Silver Proof Coins

These beautifully crafted coins pay tribute to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II through five effigies that appeared on Perth Mint coinage throughout her reign. At the centre is Jody Clark’s 2019 effigy, surrounded by earlier portraits by Ian Rank-Broadley (1998), Raphael Maklouf (1985), Arnold Machin (1966), and Mary Gillick (1953). Together, they tell a visual story of a monarch who evolved with her people while remaining true to her role.

The background features Australia’s national floral emblem — the golden wattle, symbolising the warmth and connection between Australia and the Commonwealth. Encircling the design are iconic royal symbols: St Edward’s Crown, the Sovereign’s Orb, Tudor Rose, and Sceptre. These elements, paired with the inscription “H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH II 100th ANNIVERSARY, create a rich tribute to her legacy.

To offer insight into the creative process behind the collection, designer Natasha Muhl reflected on what the project meant to her.

“Creating this collection was a deeply meaningful experience. I wanted each element to honour not just the Queen’s legacy, but the connection so many people felt to her throughout her life. Every effigy, every symbol, every detail was chosen to reflect her enduring presence and the respect she inspired across generations.”
