The Perth Mint sold 30,871 troy ounces (oz) of gold, 486,043 oz of silver and 1,915 oz of platinum in minted product form during July 2026.

Gold traded largely rangebound throughout July. Opening the month at around USD 4,000, the precious metal strengthened following softer-than-expected US employment data and comments from US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh suggesting inflation risks had eased. After reaching an early-month high of almost USD 4,175, gold gradually retreated as the evolving conflict in the Middle East and ongoing uncertainty surrounding the US economy influenced investor sentiment. These factors contributed to heightened market volatility, with several trading sessions recording moves of close to plus or minus 2%. By month-end, gold was trading near USD 4,050, delivering a modest monthly gain of around 1% despite touching its lowest level of the year during July.

In Australian dollar terms, gold briefly traded back above AUD 6,000 in early July before falling below that key level. It fell under AUD 5,700 by mid-month, its lowest level of the year, before recovering to finish the month down around 1% to approximately AUD 5,760 reflecting the stronger Australian dollar.

Silver also experienced a volatile July, although price movements were less pronounced than earlier in the year. Like gold, silver also touched its lowest level of 2026 before recovering as markets continued to respond to macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. By the end of the month, silver was trading around USD 58 an ounce, down slightly for the month.

In Australian dollar terms, silver fell below AUD 80 before recovering to close July near AUD 82.50, for an overall decline of approximately 3%.

The Gold Silver Ratio was near 70 at the end of month.

Platinum prices recovered during July after reaching recent lows in late June, with renewed investor buying at lower price levels providing support to the market.
