The Perth Mint Weaves a web of gold with Jewelled Redback Spider coin
The Perth Mint has unveiled The Jewelled Redback Spider, an intricate coin featuring a three-dimensional redback spider crafted from 18-carat gold and adorned with diamonds and a ruby.
Combining precious metals, gemstones and exceptional Australian craftsmanship, the release is one of the Mint’s most distinctive collector pieces.
Struck from 2oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, the coin's centrepiece is a sculptural redback spider suspended within an intricate web. Black diamonds embellish the spider's body, while a handset vivid ruby represents its iconic red marking.
The design is set against a windmill and weathered fencing, depicting a classic Australian outback scene where redback spiders are commonly found.
The Perth Mint General Manager Retail, Tina Kircher, said the release drew inspiration from one of Australia’s most recognisable creatures.
"The redback spider is a uniquely Australian icon,” Ms Kircher said.
“While many Australians prefer to admire one from a distance, its distinctive appearance and intricate web made it a fascinating subject for this release."
"The redback's web is an extraordinary feat of natural design, and we wanted to reflect that same level of detail in this piece. From the sculpted spider and delicate web through to the carefully selected gemstones, every element has been carefully crafted to bring the design to life."
Presented in a premium display case and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, The Jewelled Redback Spider is Australian legal tender, with only 60 available worldwide.
The Jewelled Redback Spider is priced at AUD $30,000 and is available in store and online at perthmint.com.
