The Perth Mint has launched the latest release in its renowned Australian Lunar Coin Series III - the 2026 Year of the Horse bullion collection.

Available from today, the bullion coins feature dynamic new designs celebrating the spirited and independent nature of the horse.

Numismatic gold and silver proof coins in a range of sizes and denominations will follow from tomorrow, with additional releases planned ahead of the Lunar New Year in January 2026.

Now in its third series, The Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar program celebrates the 12 animals of the lunar zodiac, each said to shape the character and destiny of those born under its sign. People born in the Year of the Horse are said to be independent, charismatic, and adventurous.

General Manager Minted Products, Neil Vance, said the annual release is a highlight for collectors and The Mint alike.

“The Australian Lunar Series III continues to be one of our most anticipated annual releases,” he said.

“We take immense pride in crafting coins that honour cultural heritage with exceptional artistry and minting precision.

“Struck from 99.99% pure gold and silver and issued as Australian legal tender, these coins are both auspicious keepsakes and highly treasured collectibles.

“We hope those born in the Year of the Horse embrace a year full of passion and adventure.”

The Perth Mint designer, Ing Ing Jong, has created several collections in the Lunar program and drew inspiration for the Year of the Horse from traditional Chinese horse paintings renowned for their expressive energy and dynamic movement.

“I was particularly drawn to depictions of galloping herds, which convey a powerful sense of momentum and freedom,” Ing said.

“In Chinese culture, horses symbolise perseverance and the pursuit of success. With this design, I aimed to capture their strength, vitality, and untamed spirit.”

Each coin is presented in a beautifully illustrated shipper reflecting the horse’s independent nature.

Collectors can display the shipper alongside previous releases to form a striking diorama of all 12 zodiac animals from the Great Race.

To celebrate the launch, customers purchasing at The Perth Mint store between 9am -11am on release days can receive a signed certificate or exclusive bullion print by artist Ing Ing Jong.

The 2026 Year of the Horse coins from the Australian Lunar Coin Series III are available in strictly limited mintages.
