Young fundraisers celebrated at Premier's Telethon Challenge event at The Perth Mint
The Perth Mint recently hosted the Western Australian Premier the Hon. Roger Cook MLA, The Minister for Mines and Petroleum the Hon. David Michael MLA and a small group of students for a presentation to celebrate the three winning schools of the inaugural Premier's Telethon Challenge.
The Challenge empowers students and schools to take part in meaningful community action by raising money for sick, vulnerable, and disadvantaged children across WA.
The event celebrated a remarkable achievement with more than $115,000 raised by students across 79 schools to support sick kids through Telethon.
Students demonstrated creativity and community spirit in their fundraising efforts, organising activities including pyjama and dress-up days, raffles, fun runs and sausage sizzles.
The three winning schools were:
- Durham Road School – $2,064 (Small school winner)
- St Francis Xavier Primary School – $25,083 (Medium school winner)
- Mindarie Primary School – $18,048 (Large school winner)
The Perth Mint crafted a custom gold-plated medallion for each winning school featuring their name, Telethon’s beloved mascot Fat Cat, and the Telethon and Premier’s Challenge logos.
The celebration included a performance from the Mindarie Primary School choir and a special guest appearance from everyone's favourite feline - Fat Cat - who helped Premier Cook and Minister Michael in presenting the awards and posing for photos.
Guests then enjoyed morning tea before viewing a private gold pour, a memorable highlight for many of the young visitors and their carers and teachers.
The Perth Mint is proud to support initiatives like the Premier’s Telethon Challenge that bring communities together to make a difference for children in need.
Telethon has been helping young Western Australians for 58 years, funding life-changing research, equipment and programs. This year’s fundraising weekend (18-19 October) saw the WA community raise more than $90 million.
