Minting Memories: Celebrating the Wonder of Western Australia

This April, The Perth Mint is bringing Western Australia’s stories to life through coin design as part of the Lotterywest Boorloo Heritage Festival.
Located in the Mint’s forecourt in East Perth, Minting Memories: Celebrating the Wonder of Western Australia is a free outdoor exhibition that showcases how The Perth Mint’s coin designs capture the spirit, history and natural beauty of our state. From First Nations stories and gold‑rich landscapes to marine life, wildflowers and beach culture, the exhibition reveals the inspiration behind some of our most memorable designs.
Designed for all ages, the experience invites visitors to explore six themed structures that highlight Western Australia’s unique identity while discovering the incredible skill and detail involved in designing and producing precious metal coins.
“The Perth Mint has always been deeply connected to Western Australia, and Minting Memories is a wonderful way to share that connection with the community.”
"By bringing our coin stories into the Forecourt, we’re inviting visitors to discover how WA’s history, culture and natural beauty have inspired our designs, while also showcasing the craftsmanship and skill behind the coins we produce.”
Families can also enjoy a free children’s stamp passport activity, where young explorers travel through the exhibition collecting stamps linked to featured coins. Once completed, visitors can enter a competition to win The Perth Mint’s Australian Quokka 1oz Silver Coloured Coins.

Adding to the experience, Coin Designer Workshops running during the April school holidays offer participants the chance to learn about the coin design process, guided by real examples from the exhibition and inspired by Western Australia’s landscapes and stories. This workshop is priced at AUD 30/participant. But places are limited.
Whether you’re discovering Perth Mint for the first time or rediscovering a WA icon, Minting Memories offers a new way to connect with our state’s heritage in the heart of East Perth.
