Wild and free

Brumbies are wild horses that roam parts of Australia, especially the high country of the Australian Alps. Their origins date back to the early colonial period, when domestic horses were lost, abandoned, or released into the wild – most notably by James Brumby, a soldier and pastoralist whose name became associated with these free-roaming animals. Over time, these horses have adapted to the country’s challenging landscapes, living independently and thriving in the wild, to become an untamed beauty of the Australian wilderness.

Powerful brumby design

The coin’s reverse portrays a brumby majestically poised on a flat rock face, against the backdrop of a full moon above a rocky terrain and shrubs. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN BRUMBY’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, as well as the coin’s weight, fineness, and 2026 year-date.
