Story

Historic gold source

Discovered during the 1890s, the Golden Mile near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia was once said to be the richest square mile of gold reserves in the world. Most of its original workings were swallowed up during the 20th century with the creation of an enormous open pit that continues to produce remarkable quantities of gold.

Deep within the mine

The coin portrays a view from deep within the mine. Intricate detailing highlights the pit’s stepped slopes and the roadways used by haul trucks. As well as the inscription ‘SUPER PIT AUSTRALIA 2024 1oz 9999 GOLD’, the reverse also incorporates a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.

The coin’s obverse portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.

Authentication feature

For additional peace of mind, the coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

Presentation

The coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule.
