The Aurora Borealis is an enchanting dance of coloured lights that illuminate Arctic skies at night. Nordic legend imagined that its spectacular celestial rays were pathways between the mortal realm and the spirit world.
Shimmering colour
The superbly coloured coin visualises the shimmering spectacle, also known as the Northern Lights, from a wooden footbridge amid fjord, forest, and mountain scenery. Also included in the design is the inscription ‘AURORA BOREALIS’ on the bridge floor planks.
Memorial Obverse
This coin portrays the official Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, featuring the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy supplemented with the dates of Her Majesty’s reign – ‘1952 – 2022’.
