The beloved koala

Admired worldwide for their endearing appearance, koalas are one of Australia’s most iconic and beloved marsupials. Closely tied to their eucalyptus forest habitat, koalas rely on these trees for food and shelter. Feeding almost exclusively on eucalyptus leaves, they conserve energy by sleeping for up to 22 hours each day. Characterised by their soft grey fur, rounded ears and distinctive black nose, koalas are gentle, slow‑moving animals uniquely adapted to life in the treetops.

Pretty in pink

The coin’s reverse portrays a koala perched in a eucalyptus tree, holding a leafy branch in its mouth surrounded by native foliage. The koala and the coin’s rim are gilded in 22-carat pink gold. Included on the reverse are the inscriptions ‘KOALA’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, as well as the coin’s weight, purity and 2026 year-date.
