First issued in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra is a sought-after coin series featuring annual designs of one of our most iconic birds. Famed for its raucous laughing call, the kookaburra is heard across the nation – from the outback to the back yard.

High relief design

The superbly finished proof quality coin depicts two kookaburras perched on the branches of a shrub displaying the flowers of Australian native waratah. Struck with an extra deep die, the design is notably elevated from the coin surface for an outstanding display of detail. The reverse also includes the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight, purity and 2023 year-date.
