Story

Famous bush bird

The kookaburra is one of Australia’s most recognisable birds with its loud, chuckling call carrying across bushland, rural properties as well as inner city parks and neighbourhoods. It is often seen sitting quietly on a high perch, watching intently before swooping down to catch its next meal of insects, reptiles, and small animals. Their inquisitive nature together with their unforgettable vocals has made the kookaburra a well-known character of the Australian landscape.

Incused design

The coin’s reverse design depicts an image of the famous bush bird in flight over a river, framed by lush trees and rugged rocks. The reverse also includes the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight, purity and 2026 year-date.
