Fearless feline

First released for 1996, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the 12 animals of the lunar zodiac. This 2022 coin celebrate the tiger, whose rule over every third year in the 12-year lunar calendar is said to bestow courage, confidence and charm on people born under its influence in 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 and 2022.

Gilded design

The coin portrays a tiger cub following its proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain. Both animals are gilded in 24-carat gold. Also included in the design are representations of bamboo and ferns, the Chinese character for ‘tiger’, the inscription ‘TIGER 2022’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
