Auspicious symbols of strength
The strengths of the 12 animals of the lunar calendar are said to be evident in those born during their rule. Fifth in line after the mouse, ox, tiger, and rabbit, the dragon is said to bestow charisma, ambition, and success on those born under its influence in 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024.
Year of the Dragon design
The coin’s flawlessly struck design portrays a dragon with stylized waves and fog, an allusion to its control of water and the elements. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘dragon’, the inscription ‘DRAGON 2024’, and a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
Memorial Obverse
The coins bear The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, featuring the Jody Clark effigy supplemented with the dates of Her Majesty’s reign. Also on the obverse is the coin’s weight, purity, monetary denomination, and year-date.
Presentation packaging
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the set is presented in a classic display case with a geometric design on its transparent lid. The case comes in an illustrated shipper featuring a dragon. When arrayed with other three-coin set shippers from the series, the resulting diorama depicts the legend of The Great Race, in which 12 animals successfully compete for a position in the lunar zodiac.
