Proof, gilded, bullion and coloured finishes

A landmark Australian coin program sought by collectors worldwide reaches its finale in 2019 with depictions of the ultimate animal from the 12-year lunar calendar. Easy-going, sincere and calm under pressure are character traits said to be present in everyone born under the sign of the pig in 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 and 2019.

Year of the pig design

The reverse of each coin depicts a superb representation of a domesticated pig with four gorgeous little piglets amid stylised foliage. The Chinese character for ‘pig’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Pig’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The delicately frosted design on the silver proof coin appears on an immaculately polished table. The shiny design on the bullion coin appears on a frosted table. The pig is highlighted in 24 carat gold on the gilded edition. The meticulously coloured edition depicts the pig her piglets in a delicate pink with black markings.
