Former chief engraver of the US Mint and master of avian design John M. Mercanti depicts the Australian wedge-tailed eagle’s impressive wingspan in his latest design for The Perth Mint. The extraordinary detail of a high relief strike portrays Australia’s largest bird of prey with outstanding clarity.

Masterful Mercanti coin design

The coin’s reverse depicts a magnificent wedge-tailed eagle in flight with wings fully extended and stylised rays of sunlight in the background. The design also includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’, the 2019 year-date, the weight and fineness and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
