Regal eagle design
The coin incorporates a pure gold centrepiece portraying a silhouette of a wedge-tailed eagle in the foreground and a bald eagle behind it, both gazing to the right. The silver outer ring includes the inscriptions ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’ and the 2026 year-date, along with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
This is the eleventh Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle design for The Perth Mint by renowned American sculptor and engraver, John M. Mercanti. As 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, John Mercanti produced more coin and medal designs than any other employee in the organisation’s history.
