Story

Decks of fate

Tarot is a centuries-old system of illustrated cards, which have been used as a symbolic tool for reflection and insight into the human experience. A deck of tarot cards comprises major arcana or psychological archetypes, minor arcana representing stages of development, and four suits signifying character traits. Using vivid imagery, the characters of tarot and their personas explore the universal concepts of emotion, challenge, change, and personal growth. Tarot readings are commonly sought when there is a desire to contemplate life events, questions, choices, and personal direction.

Tarot card design

The coin’s coloured reverse portrays eight cards of a tarot deck surrounding a depiction of The Fool. Clockwise from the top is The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Lovers, The Wheel of Fortune, Death, and The World, on a background of the night sky and billowing clouds. Also included in the design is The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
