Story

Auspicious animals

In Chinese mythology, the dragon is a divine creature symbolising power, strength, wealth, and good fortune. Throughout East Asia and beyond, koi are synonymous with harmony and happiness, and are also said to be lucky omens for marriage and fertility.

Symbolic design

The coin portrays representations of a Chinese dragon and koi pursuing wisdom in the shape of a flaming pearl. As well as The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the artistry also includes a ‘moon bridge’ – it’s high arch and reflection on water creating the shape of the lunar body often associated with purity or perfection.
