Story

Gift for newlyweds

In Chinese culture a pair of Mandarin ducks is a traditional symbol of a happy marriage, romance, devotion, affection and enduring love. The ducks have long been considered a symbol of fidelity and pairs are often given to brides on their wedding day.

Mandarin duck design

The coin's reverse depicts a pair of Mandarin ducks swimming on a pond. The design includes the Chinese character for double happiness and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coin’s obverse.

Presentation packaging and numbered certificate

Red packets containing money are a traditional wedding gift for Chinese couples and the presentation packaging for this coin honours this ancient custom. The intricate cover is designed as a magnetically sealed case featuring finely cut-out flowers in red, the colour symbolising good luck in Chinese culture, and the Chinese character for double happiness. The case opens to reveal an inset shipper housing the coin and the numbered certificate of authenticity, which is held in place by red ribbon.
