Authentic opal insert

Great Southern Land is a popular series of collectables featuring map-shaped inserts made from minerals or other natural materials. Mined in three Australian states, opal is a colourful mineral which in gemstone form is renowned for its spectacular ‘play of colours’.

Animal icons

The map-shaped insert is encircled by representations of iconic Australian animals including the kangaroo, emu, koala, echidna, wombat and bilby. Also included on the reverse is the coin’s 2022 year-date and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
