Powerful protector

The griffin is a legendary creature with the body and tail of a lion, and the head and wings of an eagle. It has variously embodied power, strength, valour, wealth, and courage – and has been embraced as a guardian of gold and other precious possessions.

Mountain lair design

The coin portrays a griffin in the mountains, where it is said to nest. As well as The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the design includes the inscription ‘MYTHICAL CREATURES GRIFFIN’.
