Welcome find features gold coin

The Welcome Stranger weighed 72kg and contained almost 2,300oz of gold when it was found in the Victorian goldfields northwest of Melbourne. It sold for about 10,000 British pounds, the equivalent to millions of dollars today.

Historic nugget design

The coin includes a representation of Stuart Devlin’s depiction of the Welcome Stranger gold nugget as it appeared in The Perth Mint’s 1986 Australian Nugget 1oz gold coin. Also included in the design are the inscriptions ‘WELCOME STRANGER 1869’, ‘AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’, ‘2019 1/4oz 9999 GOLD’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Presentation packaging

The coin is housed in a classic display case with a timber lid. Packaged with an illustrated shipper, each coin is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
