Story

Ancient artform

The artwork in this coin series draws inspiration from the Chinese art of paper-cutting. Chinese paper-cutting, or 'jianzhi', is the art of carving out intricate designs from paper to decorate windows and lanterns. Said to have originated after the invention of paper in 105 CE, the folk art tradition is still practiced to this day. In 2009, it was inscribed into the to UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a list comprising intangible heritage elements that highlight the diversity of this heritage and raise awareness of its significance

Rotating horse design
