100 years of Ford Australia

On 1 July 1925, in a converted wool store in Geelong, Victoria, the first Australian-built Ford vehicle rolled off the assembly line: a Model T. This car revolutionised motoring and was the first car affordable enough to reach a mass market. It was tough, reliable and easy to maintain, and its low price was partly due to Henry Ford’s adoption of the moving assembly line. The company built a permanent Geelong factory that produced various models over the years, and in 1956 opened a second complex in Broadmeadows, becoming its headquarters in 1961. Ford manufacturing in Australia ended in 2016. Today, Ford Australia continues to lead the global design and development of the Ranger and Everest, and imports vehicles for Australian buyers.

Model T design

The coin’s reverse features a coloured image of a Ford Model T, set against a background of a tyre pattern. Included in the design is the Ford 100 Years logo and the inscriptions '100 YEARS OF FORD AUSTRALIA 2025' and ‘MODEL T - 1925’.
