Ngana Nyitting

Artist Kevin Bynder was born in Boorloo/Perth in 1975 to a Whadjuk-Yuet Nyoongar mother and a Widi-Badimia Yamatji father. The title of this stamp issue, Ngana Nyitting, translates as 'My Dreaming' in the Yamatji (Ngana) and Nyoongar (Nyitting) languages. 

The boodja, meaning 'country' of the Yuet people is located 250 kilometres north of Boorloo/Perth and north-east of Balladong boodja. The town of Moora is where Kevin’s maternal Nana is from. She was born amongst the trees near a settlement called Walebing. This stamp and coin cover shows Kevin’s Nana’s country.

Emu and kangaroo design

Representing elements of Yuet boodja, the coin's coloured reverse features a yongka, meaning 'kangaroo', and a weitj, meaning 'emu', both of which are major sources of traditional food which Kevin's ancestors would hunt, and bottlebrush tree flowers. Representations of waterways, the sun, and ochre are portrayed in the background of the design. As well as the artist’s initials and 2025 year-date, the reverse also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
