Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin
Inspired by the enduring popularity of the annual Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin Series, this mammoth coin has been a visitor highlight since it was cast in 2011.
The gold coin tips the scales at a massive one tonne of 99.99% pure gold.
Measuring about 80 centimetres wide and 12 centimetres deep it is the biggest, heaviest and most valuable gold bullion coin in the world.
Gold Exhibition centrepiece
Created as a show a dazzling showpiece to promote the Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin Series worldwide, the gold coin is now a major drawcard for visitors of The Perth Mint.
Having toured the world including Asia, Europe and the United States, the monumental coin is now on permanent display in The Perth Mint’s Gold Exhibition.
Record breaking coin
The Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin was awarded the title of the ‘largest coin’ by Guinness World Records in 2012.
Producing a coin of this size and scale was the ultimate challenge. The successful casting of the gold bullion coin is considered one of The Perth Mint’s most extraordinary accomplishments since it was established in 1899.
As the pinnacle of the Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin Series, the coin showcases the classic artistry by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG, goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
His work has featured on each annual 1 kilo release in the series since the kangaroo design was introduced in 1989.
