Behind the design of the Kimberley Sunset ring
Synonymous with the Western Australian gold industry for more than 125 years, The Perth Mint has enjoyed a longstanding collaboration with two icons of our State: Rio Tinto Limited and globally acclaimed Argyle Pink Diamonds™.
Through our expertise in precious metals and fine jewellery, we have helped showcase some of the world's rarest pink diamonds, highlighting both their exceptional beauty and the remarkable provenance that underpins their value.
Since being appointed an Argyle Pink Diamonds Select Atelier™ in 2009 we have worked alongside these industry leaders and renowned international jeweller John Glajz, an Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partner™, to create extraordinary one-of-a-kind Masterpieces.

Since the Argyle Diamond Mine ceased to operate in 2020 and Rio Tinto hosted its final Beyond RareTM Tender in 2025, the rarity of these coloured jewels has catapulted to new heights and reignited the imagination of our in-house creative team.

What was the inspiration behind the design?
The Kimberley’s radiant sunsets which envelope the open sky over red earth, escarpments, rugged gorges, and distinct boab trees inspired the design of the Kimberley Sunset ring.
Our Specialist and Jewellery Designer Michael Falocco FGAA explains, “We have created an aide-mémoire of the natural splendour of this ancient land and captured the light and fiery hues that glow across the horizon as each day comes to an end.”

A work of art
Taking more than 160 hours to meticulously handcraft and set with 229 Argyle Pink Diamonds™ in 18ct Australian Origin Gold™, this is our latest bespoke diamond art oeuvre.
Three Beyond Rare™ Tender stones, totalling 0.85 carats, sit at the heart of this exceptional ring. Acquired from two of Rio Tinto's exclusive Tenders, an invitation-only offering reserved for the most exceptional diamonds from its remaining Argyle Pink Diamonds™ and Diavik Diamond Mine inventory, these extraordinary gems represent the pinnacle of Rio Tinto's diamond legacy. Showcasing these remarkable stones, an extraordinary 3P round brilliant cut Argyle Pink Diamond™ shines brightly at the centre of the ring, framed by two 2P pear brilliant cut Argyle Pink Diamonds™ set in a north–south orientation, echoing the sweeping rays of sunset across the Kimberley sky and Lake Argyle.
Surrounding this luminous trio is a further 1.65 carats of Fancy Intense Purplish Pink and Fancy Intense Pink Argyle Pink Diamonds™ with the underside of the main setting displaying an intricate boab tree motif with additional pink diamonds at its roots and crown.
