Story
Revered dragon
The dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years it was associated with the emperor, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. The dragon is also one of 12 animals featured in the ancient lunar calendar. Those born under the sign of the lunar dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be ambitious, successful, and charismatic.
Coloured design
The coin portrays a coloured Chinese dragon and a flaming pearl, a symbol of wisdom. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘dragon’, the inscription ‘DRAGON 2024’ and a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
Memorial Obverse
The coin bears the Jody Clark Memorial Obverse of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II supplemented with the dates of her reign ‘1952-2022’, as well as the weight and finesses, and the monetary denomination.
Coin show packaging
This coin is housed in a superbly illustrated presentation card featuring the words BRISBANE MONEY EXPO ANDA SPECIAL and the Australasian Numismatic Dealer’s Association’s logo. On the back of the card is a fold-out stand for upright display.
About the series
Australian Lunar Series III
Each Australian lunar series from The Perth Mint is based on the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. Coin collectors are besotted with each annual release, hence the longevity of the 12-year series.
Established in 1996, The Perth Mint was the first to release an Australian lunar coin program. Due to its success, it is now in its third series.
Made with the fine gold, silver and platinum in combination with intricate craftsmanship, these Australian lunar collector coins explore the ancient tradition and mythical folklore of the Chinese Great Race.
