On 8 September 2022, His Majesty King Charles III acceded to the throne following the sad passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Prior to his succession, His Majesty The King was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history and supported several important causes during his time as Prince of Wales.
Coat of Arms design
Crafted with exquisite detail, this fine silver proof quality coin from The Royal Mint, situated in Wales, marks the first-ever appearance of King Charles III’s Royal Arms on UK coinage. The reverse design featuring the Coat of Arms of His Majesty King Charles III is a stunning tribute to the new era of British monarchy. Designed by Timothy Noad, the intricate engraving showcases the lion and unicorn, traditional heraldic symbols representing England and Scotland. The obverse depicts the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by Martin Jennings.
This is the first time that the new rendering of the Royal Arms has appeared on a UK £5 coin, and the Arms will appear across official government documents, including UK passports, as well as in churches and on public buildings.
